Drs. Slaten and Dr. Fury
Dr. Richard Slaten and Dr. Kim Fury each offer Northeast Ohio over 35 years of experience in the practice of dentistry. They have been married since 1980 and reside in Chagrin Falls. Their two sons, Ryan and Kevin, are graduates of The Ohio State University. Dr. Ryan joined our dental team in early 2010 and already has many valued patients. Kevin continues to pursue advanced studies in Chinese language and social sciences, and writes regularly on kevinslaten.blogspot.com.
Dr. Richard Slaten
Dr. Richard Slaten received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Michigan State University. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he was a class officer, a member of the student council, and presented a research project on decreasing the decay rate of preschool children.
Continuing education has always been a part of Dr. Slaten’s professional life. His studies include implant dentistry, esthetic restorative anterior/posterior dentistry both fixed and removable, non-amalgam restorations, TMJ dysfunction, endodontics, and periodontal/chemo therapeutics. Dr. Slaten is particularly proud of his completing a three-year program in Orthodontic Studies and becoming a founding member of The American Association for Functional Orthodontics; studies in anterior esthetics, occlusion, problem solving, and restorative applications at the Dawson Center for Advanced Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida; graduation from the Pride Institute of practice management in Chicago; an attendee of various programs in esthetic, occlusal, reconstructive and neuromuscular dentistry at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies; a founding member of NEONs – North East Ohio Neuromuscular Study Consortium; membership and participation in ACDNA – Academy of Computerized Dentistry of North America; certificate of clinical proficiency in Diode Laser usage through the Academy of Laser Dentistry; and an ongoing student of APEX – a neuromuscular and esthetic dental teaching institute.
Dr. Ryan Slaten
Dr. Ryan Slaten is a graduate of The Ohio State University Dental School. His interest in dentistry began at a young age. He worked in our dental lab and enjoyed integrating his artistic aptitude along with the technical aspects of dentistry. In dental school at OSU, Dr. Ryan became the first student to fabricate and place an anterior Cerec restoration. He was one of five students in his class to place dental implants. While working toward his DDS degree, he attended post-graduate courses on various topics including Tissue Grafting, Osteointegration, Dental Implants, Neuromuscular Dysfunction, Cerec Restorations, Lumineers and Dental Esthetics.
Dr. Ryan is a member of local and state dental societies, along with the American Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry and Academy of Cad Cam Dentistry. His hobbies include back-packing and repelling, kayaking, hockey, skiing and Greenpeace.
Dr. Kim Fury
Dr. Kim Fury has been involved in dentistry since 1969. After 17 years as a practicing hygienist, Dr. Fury returned to school and earned both her Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry. At graduation, through commuting from home and continuing in the roles of wife, mother, and aerobic instructor, Dr. Fury received the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Academic Honorary for her high achievements in academics and character while attending dental school.
Continuing education is also an enduring focus in Dr. Fury’s professional life. Her studies include esthetic and restorative anterior/posterior dentistry, TMJ dysfunction, endodontics, periodontal/chemo therapeutics, nutrition, exercise, and non-amalgam restorations. Dr. Fury is proud of her association and graduation from studies at the Dawson Center for Advanced Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida in anterior esthetics, occlusion, problem solving and restorative applications; the Pride Institute of Practice Management in Chicago and her leadership in studies at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in esthetics, occlusal, reconstructive and neuromuscular dentistry. She is a founding member of NEONs – North East Ohio Neuromuscular Study Consortium, a member and participant in ACDNA – Academy of Computerized Dentistry of North America; has a certificate of clinical proficiency in Diode Laser usage through the Academy of Laser Dentistry; and is associated with APEX – a neuromuscular and esthetic dental teaching institute. Dr. Fury has taken both basic and advanced courses for Botox and dermal fillers, which was a requisite for becoming a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, www.facialesthetics.org.
Dr. Ellen Saslaw
Dr. Ellen Saslaw grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University with an undergraduate degree in Spanish and a graduate degree in general dentistry. Dr. Ellen enjoys all aspects of dentistry, especially meeting new people. She is also certified to perform Botox and dermal fillers, and is proud to be able to include this in the many services offered to her patients. Dr. Ellen moved to the Chagrin Falls area in 2010 and currently resides in Twinsburg with her two cats, Big and Carrie. She enjoys working out, skiing, reading, traveling and spending time with those she is closest to, her friends and family. She is excited to be joining the Perfect-A-Smile team!
