At Perfect-A-Smile we are preparing and placing natural looking ceramic crowns, onlays or veneers for patients in one office visit! These new dental components belong to the to a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) instrument called the CEREC® 3D.
The CEREC® 3D allows our office to repair a damaged tooth in about 90 minutes with a tooth-colored ceramic restoration. Dentists no longer need to take impressions or create temporaries. And unlike the old procedure where patients made a second or even a third visit to insert the restoration, this procedure is done in one visit.
The CEREC® 3D system enables us to satisfy patients seeking a long-lasting, esthetic alternative to silver “mercury” or plastic fillings. The restorations are made from a single block of high-quality, biocompatible, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistance ceramic material. This material is the closest “man-made” substance to natural tooth enamel. Inlays, partial crowns, full crowns, veneers and all single-tooth restorations or “fillings” can be created with this system.
To make the restoration, Dr. Slaten and Dr. Fury first paint a reflective powder over the prepared tooth. Using a special digital camera, they take an accurate picture of the tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where we use CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the patient is in the chair. Most restorations are milled in less than 20 minutes. Finally, we bond the new restoration to the surface of the prepared tooth.
CEREC® 3D has over a decade of clinical research and documentation to support the technology. This state-of-the-art computer-aided technology helps us improve your smile with natural looking, precise restorations. The single visit means less anesthetic, less drilling, no messy impressions, no need for you being careful with a temporary crown. It is the fastest and most effective way to replace old unsightly silver “mercury” fillings with beautiful long-lasting, tooth-colored ceramic restorations.
